I almost feel the same way, I have the 10 Pro, and it is hands down the best and most stable phone I’ve had. Put a skin on top, and the system UI is even perfectly fine. However, loosing Google Support means I will have to wait for reviews and I’ll be very interested in how I can install Google Services myself. We’ll see, but I may have to look at Samsung, Google and OnePlus alternatives in a phone.

No-one only gets to only follow the laws they want to, otherwise the whole concept of the rule of law would fall apart.
Google has to operate within the restrictions imposed upon it, whether it wants to or not. The trade ban with China is US policy enshrined in law via Executive Order; Google have no option but to follow the law, regardless of whether they agree with it. Google can’t follow it’s ‘own rules’, even if you do type it out in block caps.

I think they’re saying it just won’t SHIP with Google apps loaded. It’s pretty easy to download and install the latest APK of any Google app without the Google Play store, perhaps you could simply just install an APK of the Play Store yourself, problem solved. It’s called side-loading. After owning countless iPhones, HTCs, Sony Xperias, my (Mate 20 bought in Europe) is hands down the best phone I’ve owned, especially when you factor in the price/performance ratio. With Apple’s general stagnation as of late, Huawei seems like one of the few companies that’s still innovating (think periscope zoom lense in the P30 Pro). I’m planning to get the Mate 30 Pro. Years of jail breaking and boot loading my phones make me pretty confident that political trade disputes won’t stand in the way of me owning the device that I want and running the apps that I want on it.

Go find an old Nexus phone for cheap and flash AOSP on it. That’s what this new phone will look like (plus Huawei’s skin of course).

Not sure goog will block after purchase downloads.. you have to add all the Google stuff yourself. Thought may be an issue compiling a package of apps simple enough for average user to install.
