That is a magnificent underground system, no other country comes close. the train carriages have different temperatures so the passenger can choose their personal comfort level, everything has been thought of. One could go to the underground for their holidays and tour the different theme stations - UP: 75

I don't think anyone has seen anything like that before, if this video ever reached US TV, they would say it's a space movie. - UP: 0

honoraryamerica
Nice infrastructure and very clean too. I also agree with the literal translated advice "don't keep your eyes only on your mobile phone". In the year 2022, it seems few people heed that message but it's worth repeating. - UP: 109

Bill Ngo
safety never too much - UP: 0

Love China's subway systems.
So clean and easy.
Cheap too.
Thanks for the video - UP: 51

You’re so hilarious. Yes, you’re correct, people are lucky if they made it out of NY T stations alive. - UP: 62

I used to work on the tube in London and I love travelling on and comparing the Chinese metro systems to the tube. I remember being at a station in Nanning one day and watching the cleaner cleaning the platform and I thought this is why the stations here are so clean and shiny they were really really doing a great job of mopping the floor until it was gleaming, unlike home. Keep these videos coming letting people see the real China. Chinese metros are so cheap - UP: 69

Louise Robinson
It looks awesome! It makes a change to see spacious clean stations with paintings on the wall than run-down stations with graffiti all over the place! - UP: 115

Clean, beautiful & safe. Their Metro system is certainly impressive. - UP: 85

Can tell the differences between who is on the job , project by engineers or project by lobbyists , - UP: 0

The new Elizabeth Line stations are almost as nice but I will admit that overall they don’t compare to China. Moscow and Stockholm have some impressive stations but it’s very hard to beat the Chinese metro systems. - UP: 204

Stockholm one is ran by MTR from Hong Kong. It is indeed a very nice system. - UP: 27

Is that in the U.K?
One difference is the speed in which China develops. In Canada, other nations too I'm sure; we have red tape and self serving contractors who drag out construction in some cases literally for years. It's insulting to taxpayers and those who expect honest, fair management of city operations.
One of the more egregious examples I witnessed myself (since I drove by it daily) was a government business in which they were simply renovating the exterior walls. Five years later and it was still unfinished. The street on the ground had a lane taken over with equipment, the residing businesses all impacted negatively due to the constant construction.
Politicians don't care and citizens pay the price for this lack of accountability. - UP: 27

@honoraryamerica  The Elizabeth line is the new line to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, this is named after her. It’s in London and is a cross London route. - UP: 1

Amélie Zh
 @Barrie Roberts  is it ? - UP: 0

i really liked the stations in Moscow, but their subway trains are as bad as some of the lines in NYC. old, decrepit, stinky, vs the stations that are lined with marble, have incredible frescos, and lit up by chandeliers. it's too bad it'll be a long while before i can revisit there. - UP: 2

Seola
@honoraryamerica  Canada, Toronto, expanding a subway line, 7.9 KM, and it's gonna take 8 bloody years to finish just under 8 km. That is if everything goes smoothly. Do you think, when it comes to construction, things go smoothly in the west? if it can finish within 10 yeas, its gonna be a bloody miracle. - UP: 13

Leon lei
@Seola  the renovation of Union Station takes 10 years already and still in process. IT IS JUST A DAMN RENOVATION ! - UP: 2

Seola
@Leon lei  haven't been to union station for a while, totally forgot about it ><. Recently drove around downtown area, and almost every dam street is in construction, wonder how long gonna stay that that XD. - UP: 1

Oberst leutnant
@Seola  Don't be down-hearted.. Sydney Australia has a subway 10 km long and took 13 years to complete. So Toronto is not that bad in comparison. - UP: 2

Maria Wood
I think the new Elizabeth line is run by MTR of Hong Kong, China too - UP: 3

dimsum den
The new Elizabeth Line is managed by Hong Kong MTR just like the one in Stockhom. - UP: 3

Seola
@Oberst leutnant  well to be fair, Toronto's one just started last year, so if we use common sense, better/newer machines should do the job a little bit faster right? - UP: 1

Oberst leutnant
@Seola  but workers‘ attitude to work remains pathetic. - UP: 0

ask a homeless guy about his living condition and personal hygiene and the answers are always as perfect as can be. the point is, when you live in the shit dump, you don't realize you are in a shit dump. and that is the State of the American mindset. - UP: 27

Andrew Zhang
Your information is wrong. Shanghai has the longest metro system with 831km, Beijing second with 783km. Johannesburg of South Africa has no real underground, but has 77 km rail transport system, it is no way to be ranked among city metro systems in the world. - UP: 2

ZD Li
Yes, Beijing was so cheap at that time. The price changed a few years ago, now is not always 2 Rmb anymore... - UP: 2

YES!!Actually Shanghai mertro is also old, for it has been in use for about a decade.. Only the new-built ones in shanghai can be as well as chengdu's. they are crazy in china, every time i go to china i see many new rails,,, - UP: 3

The US government tax the poor and transfer the money to the rich (military industrial complex) to a tune of over $800 billions this year alone instead of spending the taxed $ to build infrastructures like those in Chengdu. What a shame! - UP: 9

Keith Hays
What's really interesting is all of it stays so clean, but I have never seen anyone cleaning it. Its almost like invisible robots are cleaning everything. - UP: 11

You are right about the NYC subway system. A person might not come out alive. There have been recent stabbings, robberies, shootings, and some people have been pushed to their deaths in front of oncoming trains. - UP: 16

As a Tokyo native, I'm not even sure it's fair to compare NYC metro to any of the East Asian metro systems (Tokyo, Kansai, Seoul, Beijing, HK) anymore. Not only is it dirty, it's expensive, unreliable, confusing and unsafe-ish.
I remember late 90's-early 00's NYC metro being okay, but when I was there in 2014-15 it was already looking quite rough. Now I see it's turned into Gotham city. - UP: 2

boy cocool
@M  The rail transit in Tokyo is convenient and beautiful, and I often see it in anime haha - UP: 1

Its the small details that really impress me here. Look at how wide the sidewalk is at the end of the video! I wish american cities gave you that much space to walk - UP: 13

If this metro station was in the US you would see graffiti, homeless people hanging out, dirty, smelly, and criminal activities. - UP: 33

For some, they are already in the future. Others may still be stuck at a certain time, yet still there are those who are going backwards! - UP: 67

The main reason is that China's subway projects are built and operated by state-owned enterprises, not private enterprises, The purpose of the basic service of China's infrastructure is greater than the purpose of profitability,This is one of the reasons why China can quickly build infrastructure and the cost of low use of facilities - UP: 0

Im from the UK and when i travelled the U.S and wow its not clean at all and so many homeless people begging.... the land of the free what a lie and they even have to pay for healthcare its like a 3rd world country but they tax their own people to death - UP: 91

Chinese people have to pay for Healthcare too. Bribes to Chinese Doctors are common for "proper" medical care. - UP: 0

@ToySoldierman  The health care coverage in China is way higher than Americans. I think it's 100% now. Yes, for major illness, especially for operations and cancer etc it could be costly. China is still a developing country, it still has a lot of room to improve. But only comparing to western developed countries horizontally is not adequate. Chinese need to stay in course and keep going. - UP: 20

I saw a video on B1M about UK's HS2 and it's insane how much it costs, over £100 for a 500km network! And there are so many delays that the full network won't be fully completed till 2041. By that time, China would have more than doubled it's HSR network.
The project also has been downgraded, ie. Leeds won't have a connection to HSR. - UP: 2

I think the West has mistaken bureaucracy as freedom. Every project needs a vote, public consultation etc etc before even doing anything meaningful. Even when the infrastructure is broken, they still want to go through all that. I thought voting is suppose to get someone into power to do something meaningful, but instead it's voting someone popular and they put the responsibility back onto the public through "Consultation" "Taskforce" blah blah blah and off load the accountability at the same time. I live in Auckland NZ, it's turned into a shithole in 5 years under Labour. All they do is task force this, consult that, blah blah blah, nothing gets done. - UP: 13

OMG! I'm living in Toronto Canada here, our subway and GO train network combined don't even come anywhere close to what you are showing in this video! I am not even comparing how fresh and pretty the stations & trains look (fair to say many North America's subway lines were built more than 50 years ago, all things get old), but simply the coverage of the transit network! Over here in Toronto and I'm sure pretty much throughout North America in general, it would take many years, with lots of talking, planning, much delay, and overbudgeting to add just a few stations to an existing subway line! And the cost of that China subway ride you were showing, holy, it only costed you $0.50 USD!? Must visit China somedays, even just to try the subway ride! - UP: 1

Posh areas in London have similar stations and probably 3G. When government is Communist they have more power to implement innovation instead of like in the Western world where they privatise and just attempt to stifle growth and prosperity.Though you can argue that the one child policy China had left room for this, you trade one luxury for another.
When you have transparency and respect for your citizens then you have a community/society.
In the west they are more interested in retaining perceived value of things by hoarding and hiding it away to the point where it's never used and just gathers dust.
Free energy, weather manipulation are just a couple of things that could easily be implemented and I'm guessing China will have to do it first. - UP: 2

I have to say that China is blowing the rest of world clean out of the water when it comes to public infrastructure, and quality of life too.
That's what living in a socialist country will do for you, given that the government doesn't put profits before people and the environment, but rather people and the environment are the main concern of the government, and so profits are used to benefit them. To benefit the workers and society rather than to benefit only the CEOs and shareholders of the companies that need the workers and society to produce the profit in the first place!
It's a simple difference really, but it makes ALL the difference.
And China has shown that you can be a socialist nation AND business friendly one.
The two are not mutually exclusive. - UP: 1

I only have two complaints about the Chinese metro system.
1. You can't use the metro cards interchangeably between cities (or at least pre-pandemic you couldn't). This is a minor but a small bit of annoyance.
2. The distance from the gates to the actual platforms is so far apart!!! It's like it's intentionally designed for people to walk to all corners of the station before they ride the train (up, down, up, down, turn right three times and go up and down again). Maybe there is a very valid reason for it and I don't mind the exercise, but why? - UP: 1

Haixin Yu
I linked my mobile phone to my bank card and paid everything with my mobile phone. The distance is relatively far, I think it may be because many people take the subway to avoid congestion during peak hours, and some stations with high traffic are also connected to the underground commercial street. - UP: 0
